This is a traditional handicraft from a thousand-year-old city in China. It is listed as a World Cultural Heritage. It was once only used as a tribute to the royal family and is well-known at home and abroad. Chinese lacquerware is an artistic treasure that has been passed down for thousands of years and is known as "the beauty of the East that never fades."
Chinese lacquer is commonly known as lacquer. It is a natural lacquer. It is a secretion of lacquer trees and is obtained by cutting their trunks. As the saying goes, "a hundred miles and a thousand cuts make a pound of lacquer", which means that you need to walk a hundred miles and cut a thousand cuts on the lacquer tree to get a pound of raw lacquer.
In the process of modern lacquerware production, the processes of making the body, mounting the cloth, scraping the plaster, painting, decorating the texture, and polishing together constitute the complete production process of "lacquer clothing". Each step is crucial and is related to the final quality and presentation of the product.
The craftsman evenly applies thin layers of lacquer on the body. After each application, it is necessary to wait for it to dry naturally in the shade and repeat this step until dozens of fine layers of lacquer are accumulated on the surface. Polishing is the last step in the production of lacquerware. The craftsman needs to apply vegetable oil to the lacquerware, then dip his hands in polishing powder, and repeatedly rub the semi-finished product with the palm and fingertips until the lacquer surface is smooth and delicate. "This polishing process is the ultimate test of the craftsman's skills. Too light a force will not highlight the layered lacquer lines; too heavy a force may destroy the carefully crafted texture."
It takes months or even years to make an artifact, consuming countless materials and labor.
The utensils made with it have excellent performance, beautiful and exquisite, and are famous all over the world and named after it.
